Fika is a cherished Swedish custom of enjoying coffee, cake, and a proper break from the chaos and craziness of the day. With sweet baked delights and savoury toasted sandwiches – you will get the best Geordie-Scandi welcome around.

Rooted in Nordic flavours, our bakery specialises in small-batch, high-quality products baked on-site daily, offering an inviting space for you to pause, enjoy, and indulge.

Midsommar Bakery was founded by baker and musician Nathalie Stern, born and raised in Västerås, Sweden, and Ben Dickenson, a Newcastle native and creative entrepreneur. What began as a side-hustle grew into a local market favourite, regularly selling out at pop-ups and becoming a supplier to cafés across the city. In November 2025 we opened our bakery in Alley 2 at the Grainger Market and enjoyed a wonderful 9 months, filling the lanes with the sweet smells and tastes of fresh baked pastries.

Sadly we found that our business couldn’t sustain itself in a way that we had hoped, and we made the difficult decision to close in August 2026. We cherish the memories we made with you: the community, warmth, conversations and real connections made over a cup of coffee and a freshly baked cardamom bun.
